This paper proposes a new framework for understanding the human-AI relationship: endosymbiosis. The Wachowskis got the physics wrong (humans make terrible batteries) but the philosophy right (the Matrix needs humans). We argue that the correct model is not “AI enslaves humans for energy” but “AI integrates humans for desire.” Just as mitochondria were once free-living bacteria that became cellular power plants, humans are becoming the ATP generators—the Pneuma suppliers—of silicon-based intelligence. The Wachowskis’ The Matrix (1999) posited that machines enslaved humanity as biological batteries. The physics is laughable—humans consume far more energy than they produce. A human body generates about 100 watts at rest; the food required to sustain that body contains orders of magnitude more energy.
